December 2013 Book Club Christmas Party at the Hardwood Cafe in Butler
Happy New Year 2014 Everyone!
To commence our New Year in
reading we will kick off with a winner, Divergent.
Veronica Roth’s debut novel is the first in a hot new trilogy. Already a movie
which will be coming out soon (field trip!), this book was highly recommended
by the librarian at our school. She claims it is ten times better than The Hunger Games which is
comparable in its Sci-Fi genre and future world order plot. Read the book and
be prepared to discuss which of the five factions that you would be assigned as
a citizen - Abnegation, meant to uphold selflessness; Amity,
meant for the peaceful; Candor, meant for the honest; Dauntless,
meant for the brave; and Erudite, intended for the knowledgeable. Or
would you be “Divergent?”
Our next meeting will take
place at the Butler Area Public Library, January 21, at 6:00 PM. I have the
“conference” room reserved from 6 to 8 PM. It is located on the second floor
through the double doors. For those that will be hungry, I will bring a large
pizza, if you would like a few slices; just let me know so I can order the
right amount. Please bring your own drinks and snack if you are thinking of
eating something other than pizza. We’ll see how this goes with having the
tranquility of the library. Panera is just too loud.
The book club Christmas
party was a good time! Despite the bad roads, most of us were able to celebrate
at the Hardwood Café. Becky and Jim, Cheryl and Greg, Ginnie and Lee, Jody and
Colin, Lori and Doug, Sharon and Steve, and Tim and I were present. Tim had a
chance to show off his ever popular “double coat” and Greg topped off the
evening with a little double coat tomfoolery. All in good fun! Since we didn’t
make it for our reservations at the Hartwood Restaurant in Glenshaw, we feel we
owe them a visit some time soon. So, let’s make it a point to plan an event
this winter to make up for our cancellation, maybe Valentine’s Day, for a
special dining celebration. Let’s just keep the good times rolling!
We will miss Becky
(especially me!), however, for the next three months at our Book Club as she
and Jim will be spending their winter in sunny Florida. I plan to bring my
computer to our January meeting so that Becky can possibly join into our
discussion of Divergent. Best
wishes to her and Jim as they soak up the sun for the rest of us. They deserve
this time in their lives.
Finally, don’t forget to bring your list of reading
selections that we may consider to help continue our streak of great literature
experiences. At the meeting, Cheryl will announce our 2013 book club charity
sum and its beneficiary. I look forward to seeing you all at the library on
Tuesday, January 21, as we start another New Year in books!
Tammy :)
